This weekend local volunteers with this area's Make-a-Wish Organization worked hard to raise money in order to grant a few more wishes. Their monthly Make a Wish garage sale brought out the dedicated and the giving.
For the past 26 years, the Make-a-Wish Foundation has been granting wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses throughout Mississippi.
"Just a few months ago we granted a play ground wish for a little boy that was 6 years old. He wanted a play ground so some of our wish people came together. We purchased it at Sam's, we put it together we did a revel party for him," exclaims Brenda Golisch, a Make-a-Wish volunteer.
Brenda Golisch says the local group of volunteers for Make-a-Wish are working hard to raise money to grant wishes for seven children in this area.
"We currently have about 7 wishes in this area and we try to raise the money to grant the wishes for this area. They range any were from 2 to 5 thousand dollars a wish and this has turned into a community effort," explains Golisch.
Each month volunteers get together to plan and coordinate the monthly garage sale that is located at 10165 Lynwood Drive in Meridian. Organizers say the money raised from yard sales and other fundraisers go to a lot more then just granting a wish.
"When we come in it's like a magical part. it's like hope and strength. allot of these children start to focus on the wish and they forget about how they are feeling. So many times we actually see these children do better after a wish has been granted," says Golisch.
