A man who is a person of interest in the slaying of 7-year-old Somer Thompson appeared in court Wednesday in Clay County, Florida.
Jarred Harrell, 24, made his appearance over closed-circuit television and was appointed a public defender. His bond is set at $1 million.
Harrell was arrested Feb. 11 in Meridian, Miss., and faces 29 counts of possession of child pornography.
Thompson disappeared in October 2009 while walking home from school in Orange Park, a Jacksonville suburb. Her body was found in a south Georgia landfill two days later.
A public defender's office spokesman says it's not clear whether the office will continue to represent Harrell or if he will hire his own attorney.
