Waynesboro police have now charged Qwan Octavius Nelson with murder after a man died from gunshot wounds in a weekend shooting.
Police Chief Jimmy Bunch told the Laurel Leader-Call that Nelson's bond has been increased to $1 million. Nelson is being held in the local jail.
Bunch says Eugene "Pinky" Parker, Jr., died Tuesday at the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile.
Police say Parker was shot Sunday on a Waynesboro street and taken by a private vehicle to the local hospital and later transferred to Mobile.
Police say Nelson was initially charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Bunch says the charges were upgraded after Parker died.
