Our Town Newton: Loose Caboose Festival This Weekend

There's a certain buzz spreading through the city of Newton. It's most likely generated from the anticipation of the Loose Caboose Festival. As Angie Burks, executive director of the Newton Chamber of Commerce, says people of all ages will be entertained.

"We'll also have the pony rides. That's a cool thing. All of the little kids love to ride the ponies," said Burks.

Adults, no need to fret. There are quite a few activities just for you, starting Friday evening.

"We will kick off our barbecue contest tomorrow (Friday) night with a reception for our barbecue teams," said Burks. "We'll have live entertainment on the stage all day long."

This year's festival will have all of the goodies, from carnival rides to barbecue; they'll have it all, but there's one new thing in store.

"New to our festival this year, we have little Mr. and Miss Loose Caboose. We only have two age categories in this, 0-4 and 5-9. That is open to residents of Newton County," said Burks.

Since Mr. and Miss Loose Caboose is new this year, the contest is more of a fun thing, on a small scale. Burks says she hopes it will become a full blown pageant in future years.

Fathers may check out the antique car show. Mothers may navigate the arts and crafts. But there's one thing everyone has to do, according to Burks.

"Everybody has to have a funnel cake!"

Newscenter 11 will be celebrating Our Town newton Friday evening on
Live at 5 and Newscenter 11 at 6.

Why is a cold beer after a funnel cake awsome but a funnel cake after a few beers isn't?

Loose Caboose was a great time and opportunity for a fun day after all this crappy weather we've had for the last few months. IT IS A FAMILY EVENT. Not a place for alcohol. There is a time and place for drinking. Be a responsible adult about it. I for one, had a great time with my family and thought it was a great success. If you need alcohol to have fun, you may need to look at your life a little closer. And I mean that seriously, not trying to be smart. I've been there.

Why is there no news on this? Where is the when, where, how, and why of the story? I logged on to find out what the loose caboose was about, what events are planned and to get an idea about when it starts and what days I can go to it. All I got from the article was that I am expected to eat a funnel cake! Disappointed
