There's a certain buzz spreading through the city of Newton. It's most likely generated from the anticipation of the Loose Caboose Festival. As Angie Burks, executive director of the Newton Chamber of Commerce, says people of all ages will be entertained.
"We'll also have the pony rides. That's a cool thing. All of the little kids love to ride the ponies," said Burks.
Adults, no need to fret. There are quite a few activities just for you, starting Friday evening.
"We will kick off our barbecue contest tomorrow (Friday) night with a reception for our barbecue teams," said Burks. "We'll have live entertainment on the stage all day long."
This year's festival will have all of the goodies, from carnival rides to barbecue; they'll have it all, but there's one new thing in store.
"New to our festival this year, we have little Mr. and Miss Loose Caboose. We only have two age categories in this, 0-4 and 5-9. That is open to residents of Newton County," said Burks.
Since Mr. and Miss Loose Caboose is new this year, the contest is more of a fun thing, on a small scale. Burks says she hopes it will become a full blown pageant in future years.
Fathers may check out the antique car show. Mothers may navigate the arts and crafts. But there's one thing everyone has to do, according to Burks.
"Everybody has to have a funnel cake!"
