JACKSON, Miss. --- On Saturday night the Meridian High boys basketball team lost in the Class 6A championship game to Starkville 57-51. It has now been 32 years since the Cats have won a hoops title, but after the loss the boys in blue had one thing in mind, next season.
The core of the Wildcats will be back for another run at a title. Just two senior, neither of which are starters, were on Meridian's roster this season.
Despite the bitter end, the Cats did provide their fans with plenty of exciting moments. They upset top ranked and unbeaten Wingfield, and they blew out defending state champ Biloxi in the South State title game, and now the only goal that remains for the core group of MHS juniors is to be the last team standing following their senior season.
