A 3-year-old boy died after the ATV he was riding on with other children flipped on its side in Jones County Sunday.

The Jones County Sheriff's Department said the boy was one of three children, ages 3 to 11, riding in a four-wheel Arctic Cat Prowler driven by an 18-year-old.

Sheriff Alex Hodge said the driver lost control of the ATV around 11:30 a.m. in the Hebron community, causing it to flip over and eject the three passengers.

The other passengers suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The Arctic Cat Prowler is a two-seat ATV with a basket in the back. Officials said the occupants of the ATV were observed wearing helmets prior to the accident.

"These country people". What does that mean? Are "city folks" smarter, or something? It doesn't matter where this family lives....they lost a child and this family will never get over that. They are in my prayers.

My prayers go up for this child's family, the driver of the ATV, and the other children involved. This is a terrible tragedy. With that said I have a comment for Eric L. while I understand you live in the big Metropolis of Meridian us "country people" are educated and do know how to operate ATV's. Sometimes terrible accidents occur not because of someone's stupidy or origin they just happen! The "country people" also supervise their children, but sometimes mistakes happen. I hope you never suffur the loss of your child, but if you do you will know sometimes things are not in your control! It was an accident- let it be!

It is a grievous happenstance, the death of the child. I see one to many minors (boys and girls under 18) driving ATVs that have no motor cordination at all! These country people to be instructed on how to properly operate these things(atv) and supervise their children!
