Local girl scouts treated elementary school and middle school students to a reading session Saturday afternoon.
Scouts with Troop 6403 hosted the reading session at the Meridian public library. There were many people who read to those in attendance. Various girl scouts and Meridian Mayor Cheri Barry were among the guest readers. Ruth Evans is a Senior Girl Scout with the troop. This event is a part of her Girl Scout Gold Award Project, which is a top rank award among Girl Scouts.
"We're doing a reading session at the public library. It's just for elementary school kids and middle school kids, just whoever wants to come. Supporting the Girl Scouts mainly and improving the public library is the purpose," says Evans.
Lifeway Christian Store, Piggly Wiggly, and Lowe's helped with the girl scout reading session by donating books.
