Outside consulting firms are helping the Meridian Public School System. Staff with the firms are pointing out areas that need improving and those that are already excelling.
Firm employees point out that the meridian public schools have the potential to grow and succeed. There are certain teaching methods that the firms are trying to incorporate more often into lesson plans. Doctor Don Evans, the President of the Meridian Public School Board says these consulting firms bring in another set of eyes for an outside look.
"Well, when you bring in consulting firms, they come in to look to see how your educating the children; the process that you're using. Through that we asked them to build capacity within our schools. That's an external eye that gives our people a new look at things, because when you're there, the principals and administrators there all of the time, they might not see what this external group can see," says Evans.
Staff with the consulting firms say the teachers of the district have been very receptive to their suggestions. They are also meeting with the school principals.
