Barbour Vetoes Extension of Wind Pool Diversion

Gov. Haley Barbour has vetoed a wind pool bill because he says it is unnecessary. The bill did not include any money.

It would've added two years to a plan that diverted $20 million in insurance premium tax revenues into the Mississippi Windstorm Underwriting Association Reinsurance Assistance Fund, commonly called the wind pool.

The original diversion was signed into law in 2007 and is set to expire June 30.

Barbour says the state has put the entire $20 million into the wind pool.

The diversion was aimed at helping reduce insurance premiums on the coast.

"Dont raise my taxes", "Dont raise my taxes".....I think its a shame how people would rather see funds being cut from NEEDED sources such as education amongst many other things then spend a few little extra dollars on "taxes"....Yea taxes are a _____, BUT Im just asking why we rather sacrifice things that are more important.....Governors should be for the people as a whole, not a certain GROUP.

Is it obvious that some folks just don't like the Governor? If the original intent was to have 20 million in the fund & that is what is there then why does it matter if he vetoed it or not. I haven't necessarily been happy with some of what he has done but people need to investigate the back ground of the issue before they speak. He is in an impossible situation now. He must by law do some things that are going to make people uncomfortable no matter which way he goes. I don't like a lot of it but I would like paying higher taxes even less. Not that it matters but I would like for government, in general, to take care of infrastructure & security and then leave me alone.
