Don't Pick the Daffodils!

The city of Meridian has begun a campaign to try to save the daffodils at the Bonita Lakes Park.

This is a time of year when those flowers are especially prevalent. But city officials say many people are picking the flowers, instead of leaving them for all to enjoy.

They also say that picking them might damage the bulbs and prevent them from blooming again.

"If the daffodils keep being picked, no one will be able to enjoy them," said one park patron who did not want to give her name.

It's actually against the law in the city of Meridian to pick flowers on city-owned property.

It is actually in the city ordinance that it is illegal to pick or cut any flowers on City of Meridian property. Wouldn't it cost more to replace the "picked" flowers? They are for looks; please enjoys the site and leave them for future visitors.

Picking daffodils will not harm them for goodness sakes! My mom is the person who lives on Poplar Springs Drive down near the Point who always has the beautiful flowers (including daffodils) in her front yard. She always picks a ton of them each year to put in vases (we did this last weekend as a matter of fact). The flowers always come back strong each year and this spring has been no exception, in fact, the daffodils are thicker than ever.

I think that it is completely insane that they have spent no telling how much money on planting those flowers in a park filled with children and dogs and then don't want you to mess with them. How about putting that money to use somewhere else?????
