York Resident Reaches Century Mark

A resident of York, Ala., reached her 100th birthday this week.

Almeta Solid was born on St. Patrick's Day in 1910 in Kewanee, Miss. She moved to York in 1929.

Mrs. Solid is also a breast cancer survivor of about 30 years. Newscenter 11 asked if she has words of wisdom to share.

"Well, I've got faith in the Lord. I tell you that. Because if I didn't have faith, I wouldn't be here today," said Solid. "See what I'm saying? So I've got faith in the Lord because he has done taken care of me and brought me this far."

Mrs. Solid received a birthday card signed by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. It has a special place on her coffee table.
