Two Texas residents Meridian police say are part of a counterfeiting organization have been arrested.
Earlier this week, the East Mississippi Drug Task Force and detectives say they detained three people after receiving complaints from local businesses they were trying to pass counterfeit $100 Visa/Triple A travelers checks and exchanging them for gift cards and cash.
One suspect was released. 31-year-old Janice Lee Hill, aka Janice Hester, of Dallas, and Wendell Wade Williams, 36, of Houston are charged with multiple counts of forgery/uttering of counterfeit instruments.
Bond for Hill was set at $35,000. Williams' bond was set at at $70,000.
Police say the group was in possession of a large number of counterfeit, unsigned travelers checks and gift cards. Officials say they concentrated on shopping centers and chain stores.
The MPD says the groups is part of a larger organization based in Dallas, Tex., that is working in southeastern states.
