A local organization got a major award Thursday from Gov. Haley Barbour.
Care Lodge Domestic Violence Shelter of Meridian is a recipient of this year's Governor's Community Projects of Excellence Award.
It was presented in Jackson at a ceremony hosted by the Mississippi Development Authority.
The organization won best emergency shelter in the state.
The awards showcase organizations that have creatively used funds given to them by the MDA.
