Parents are encouraged to attend a workshop Thursday night about the Mississippi Curriculum Test that will be given to students in May.
Officials at Meridian Public Schools say the meeting is designed to help parents better prepare their children for the tests, and better understand the results.
The meeting is at Carver Middle School, starting at 6 p.m., but parents with children at Northwest and Magnolia middle schools are also invited.
"These students need to do well on this test so that we can better serve them in the classroom. And also the school's accreditation level as well as the district's is dependent upon the scores coming form the MCT testing," said Carver Middle School principal Martha Walker. "Parent participation is very much needed."
Walker says a child's performance on the MCT2 indicates whether he or she is proficient in the subject matter.
