Widespread outreach has rippled through our community for the families who lost everything in the Village Apartments fire. Saturday was no exception.
A large group of tenants from the apartment complex along with their families and friends held a fish fry Saturday afternoon. All of the money raised will go to the fire victims. Eight families lost everything in that fire last Friday. They are still in search of new homes. In order to help, their former neighbors are cooking for a cause.
"Our motivation is, I guess just God speaking to all of us individuals. We are tenants of the village. We were there the night of the fire and we saw our people left homeless without clothes, without food, nothing but what they had on at 3 o'clock in the morning. So our motivation is we got to find our people a place to live; try to rebuild hope, try to rebuild families," says Melissa Johnson, a tenant at Village Apartments.
All of the money raised there will be going towards the fire victims.
