A major air show celebrating the anniversary of an aviation milestone is coming to Meridian later this year.
The Key Brothers' Diamond Anniversary Air Show will be held May 22-23 at Key Field in Meridian. WTOK-TV is a top sponsor of the historic celebration.
2010 marks the 75th anniversary of Al and Fred Key's remarkable 27-day flight.
The Meridian natives still hold the record for longest non-stop flight in history, and they are considered the inventors of air refueling.
"Seventy-five years ago, they flew for about 27 days without landing," said Burt Zeller, chairman of the event. "They refueled in air. They are actually the ones that developed our current day refueling that we use in the military. "
The highlight of the show will be Team Chaos, which has two of the top acrobatic planes in the world, plus the world's fastest jet-powered truck. It will also feature an FA-18 demonstration.
