Several members of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department were honored Friday for their fight to keep drunk drivers off the road.
Three deputies, Guyton Montgomery, Kris Cokel, and Andy Matuszewski, were recognized at the annual state DUI Awards ceremony in Jackson.
Those deputies wrote hundreds of DUI citations between them last year, making Lauderdale County one of the top counties in the state for DUI enforcement.
"It was truly a team effort," said Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun. "While those individuals were recognized, we know it is every deputy making those stops, working those infractions, being trained to observe and look for the indicators that a person is impaired and then contacting a DUI officer to then do the investigation."
Deputies who wrote at least one hundred DUI tickets in 2009 received certificates.
