Preparations are underway for the opening of Okatibbee Lake's beaches.
The beaches and marina restaurant are scheduled to open this Saturday.
Operations manager Jack Huntley says this week will be filled with preparations to ensure that visitors are safe while they enjoy everything the lake has to offer.
"We're putting out all the swim buoys, the safety buoys, and making sure that the beaches are clean and look good and everything is ready for the opening of the beaches," said Huntley. "We'll be putting out all of our safety equipment for all the people that swim and use the beaches. "
Many boaters and campers have already been enjoying the warm weather, but park rangers remind swimmers that the beaches will not have safety devices available for use until May 22.
