Police say three of the nine people shot at a high school graduation party, including the 17-year-old who died, were friends of the man accused of the shootings.
Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit Capt. Loyd Baker says 20-year-old Akeem Antwan Prewitt opened fire with a 9 mm handgun in a crowded room at the clubhouse of an apartment complex early Sunday.
Baker says witnesses estimate there were 100 people in the clubhouse.
Prewitt is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $195,000 bail. He's charged with murder and eight counts of attempted murder.
The Bryant High School student who died is identified as LaMarcus Branch. Dee Branch, the victim's cousin, says Prewitt was a friend of theirs.
