The first King Crawdad Festival for Meridian featured free crawfish and country music stars like Blake Shelton. Officials say it brought in more people than expected.
The success of the festival was not only enjoyed by those that organized the event; area hotels and restaurants were also pleased to see so many people visiting Meridian.
"Last I checked it was fourteen states. There were people coming to Meridian from fourteen states," said Shawn Burkhalter, founder of the King Crawdad Festival.
"Business was great this weekend," said Dede Mogollon, general manager of Holiday Inn. "King Crawdad Festival brought in a lot of guests. Blake actually stayed here at the Holiday Inn and was very pleased. We did see some folks from the air show. We also had a large wedding here. The restaurant was bust with locals so business was great."
More upcoming summer events such as the state games also look to continue boosting meridian's economy.
