MPS Salutes Retiring Teachers, Staff

Meridian Public Schools honored employees who are retiring. The school system held a retirement tea for those employees.

The thirteen employees include teachers, librarians, bus drivers and administrators.

Longtime Meridian High School chemistry teacher, Earnest Smith, retired early in the 2010-2011 school year, after a 51-year career in education.

"Many of our doctors and medical workers have gone through his class," said Dr. Kim Benton. "And if you ask them what they remember most about Mr. Smith, I think it would be how much he cared about them and how much he loved teaching. "

The tea is held every year for employees in the school system who are retiring.
