Saturday morning some local community members kicked off the holiday weekend just right, with a friends and family fun day.

Community Outreach Church is a brand new church located in Meridian. Members of the church hosted Saturday's friends and family fun day in order to get acquainted with the rest of the community.

We caught the pastor of the church, Mr. Samuel Merriweather right in the middle of the dunking booth. He described the exciting activities.

"We had horse back riding, we had four wheel riding. Now we are having the dunking booth. We have free food. Firemen were here and the kids walked around with the firemen. We are just having fun all day, with music," describes Pastor Merriweather.

Pastor Merriweather and other church members hope this day brings fun for all of those who attended. More importantly, they provide the activities to keep kids busy.

"Well it's a need. Look at the children. They're here today on a Saturday. They could be somewhere getting in trouble. But, they're here having fun and not in trouble. That's the most important thing; it's to cater to the kids," says Pastor Merriweather.

Sports were also a part of the fun day. For the more competitive children, the fun day also featured a basketball tournament.
