The 19th annual State Games of Mississippi will include 29 sports spread over 17 counties. While 10 and 12-year-old soccer and All-star Baseball require tryouts, all other sports are open to individuals and teams of all ages and abilities. Participants must be Mississippi residents for at least 30 days prior to the first day of competition for their sport.

The Games kick off with the annual Olympic-style Opening Ceremonies sponsored by AT&T Mississippi on Friday, June 18, at Dumont Plaza in Downtown Meridian. The Opening Ceremonies feature entertainment, food, the Parade of Athletes, the lighting of the torch, an appearance by past and present members of the U.S. Olympic team and a grand fireworks show.

The State Games of Mississippi is one of 39 states who are members of the National Congress of State Games and is affiliated with the U.S. Olympic Committee. The Mississippi Games attract more than 5000
athletes from across the state. Participants are eligible to compete in the Southeast Sports Festival to be held in Polk County, Florida, in August, and medalists are invited to participate in the State Games of America in August of 2011 in San Diego.
