Church Burglarized Again

Congregation Church of God on 10th Avenue is the scene of the crime.

'This is where the air conditioner was in the window and this is where they took it out,' says one church member.'

It was around 1:20 Sunday morning when church members were alerted by the alarm system that there was a disturbance at the church. Once there it was discovered that one of the facility's three bolted down window air units had been stolen.

'This is about the fifth time that we've had a burglary here,' says Pastor Willie Price. He says all of those burglaries occurred within the last two to three years. Prior to Sunday's burglary, the most recent burglary attempt occurred less than a month ago.

It was just three weeks ago that someone tried to steal the air conditioner in the church's fellowship hall. Once the church's alarm went off, the burglars were apparently startled and then dropped the air conditioner. That caused it to break and the burglars fled.

'It hurts me more than anything,' says church member Lessie Moore. I'm angry because people do not give the Lord's house any respect and they've got to know that they can't just keep taking.'

In years past, Moore says someone even stole the church's meter box outside. With this most recent theft, church leaders say the costs are adding up and they cannot afford them.

"No, because we're a small congregation and we're trying to build our finances to get to where we can better support our ministry,' says Pastor Price.

"We can't afford it. We can't afford it and they need to know if we find out who got it, whoever got that air conditioner is going to go to jail," says Moore.
