A ribbon cutting of a different kind was held Monday morning at Meridian Crossroads shopping center.
Maurices Manager LaLa Brown White said, "We had an appreciation ribbon cutting. What we wanted to do was show the city of Meridian appreciation for the photo shoot. And also show our customers appreciation that they show us each and every day that they come in to the store."
Small Town Charm 2010 is a National Campaign that is now underway that features Meridian. White said, "Our company set up a competition to go on to facebook and vote for your town or to vote for the company to come into your town."
The national campaign is very exciting for all of Meridian. Mayor Cheri Barry says she is proud of what this "Small Town Charm" says about the city.
"They brought their whole team in on a bus, did a great photo shoot. Shot some beautiful models to showcase Maurices in Meridian, Miss. And I know you've seen some of the pictures," Barry said. "They are at the Riley Center. All our beautiful old walls and downtown Meridian, it's something for all of us to be very proud of."
As part of the ribbon cutting, a donation of $500 was made to United Blood Services of Meridian. Maurices also held a blood drive as well.
"They chose United Blood Services for their charitable organization because they see there is a need in the community," said UBS marketing director Heather Knight.
"We wanted to give a donation to a charity and so I chose the United Blood Services," White said.
