June 30th will mark Clara Godine's last official day on the job. After working 39 years for the Lauderdale County School District, Godine who now serves as Curriculum Director is retiring.
"It's time! It's time. You know when it's time."
Godine says at the start of this past school year she knew it would be her last.
"There just comes a time when you know you have brought to this position your life. You have brought your talents. You've brought your skills. You just know when it's time to pass the baton on to someone else."
Godine says she has enjoyed all the years that she worked with the district, but what makes her most proud is the 17 years that she taught English at Northeast High School.
"The work that I did with individuals students and the feedback that I've gotten back from them, that says that I made a difference in their lives.
As with anything, Godine says over the years there have been "ups" and "downs" on the job but even if she could do it over, she would not change a thing.
"I've come out stronger and I'm wiser and I'm a better person because any and all experiences I've had I wouldn't change a single one."
