Two Lauderdale County Officials Sunday, celebrated their retirements.

Chief Clarence R. Butler took the position as the Lauderdale County Fire Coordinator in 1990. Chief Butler served 28 1/2 years with the City of Meridian Fire Department and has over 48 years in the fire service.

"I just want to thank the board of supervisors, and especially the very first ones that I worked for, for giving me the opportunity to come to Lauderdale County and head up their fire service. All of those guys had confidence in me and I really do appreciate that," thanks Chief Butler.

George 'Joe' Rebecca took the position of director of Communications in 1982 with Lauderdale County. Joe has provided communications to over 500 Lauderdale County employees and firefighters yearly.

"Well the biggest thing that I'm going to miss is the people. The people I worked with all along the way. I'm going to miss them more than anything else. That's the part I'm going to miss the most, is the friendship and employees of Lauderdale County that I worked with," remembers Joe.

The retirement celebration was at Meridian's Evangel Temple.
