Thousands of Mississippi athletes from more than 350 different communities will parade to open the 2010 State Games of Mississippi in downtown Meridian at Meridian's Dumont Plaza.
The teams of athletes will be judged on their costumes, spirit and enthusiasm, and awards will be presented during the ceremonies.
The Athlete Oath will be administered by U. S. Olympians Ralph Boston, George Wilson, Mildrette Netter-White , and Kennedy McKinney.
2009 State Games Athletes of the Year, Joe Morrow of Amory and Kayla Stricker of Hattiesburg, will carry the torch.
Entertainment for spectators will include music from Rico and the Border Patrol, a unicyclist, and a variety of inflatables and midway games. Food from various vendors will be available.
Athletes participating will compete throughout the month of June, but the majority of the sporting events are held on two main weekends, June 18-20 and June 24-27.
