Barbour Reacts to Heat Placed on BP

Gov. Haley Barbour said Wednesday he believes making BP put money in an escrow account makes it less likely for victims to be paid.

"We expect them to pay. But if you take $10 to $20 billion out of their operational funds and make them give it to the government in an escrow account, how are they going to generate the revenue to pay what the people of Mississippi are rightfully owed?" asked Barbour.

Barbour was clear on another subject. He said he does not want to stop drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

The governor said he believes stopping drilling would only make the United States more dependent on foreign oil.

I doubt if WTOK post this comment, but... what do you mean by "Lets take our country back starting at the TOP...". Are you saying that you are losing the country? Who said it was your country anyway? I guess you must be part of that group of people that thinks the world is in your hand. Pleeassee!! its a new world now. Get Over It!! Thats what wrong with the America and Mississippi now; scared for change and dont want it. Mississippi will forever be at the bottom of the totem pole simply because, the leaders think they are still living in the oldies.

NO, that's NOT what I said. As usual, you only hear what you want to hear. I'm glad to know that Gov Barbour has that much clout. And he's a very smart man. I happen to think he's worked hard for the people of MS. Right now Obama's playing golf - woo hoo. It so very does NOT mean that he was bought & paid for with oil money. Maybe he works for a living, ever considered that? Well, I haven't heard one lie come from him like I have for the past 18 months... and to say he's been on this from day [5]1... sure... while Barbour has been working across the state trying to stimulate it back to work & getting things flowing (so to speak). Sounds like you're one of the far left on eco & ed. These need a major overhaul & I could write a thesis about it. I gotta go before my blood starts to boil... I gotta step outside into the 99 degree heat!

WHAT...are you serious. Did you really just say to Mike that his statement doesn't have to do with the oil companies and Barbour? It means Barbour is bought and paid for with oil money. He could care less about the environment, education or anything that doesn't fill his fat gut or pocket. I'm so thankful that I didn't vote for him. He is a disgrace and doesn't even try to hide his greed. He is a lobbyist to the bone. His is paid to lie and that's why he does is so well.

I agree with Anon who said the Dems took plenty of oil money & have their money just as deep in my pocket as the next politician. Mike, if you ARE from MN, you are a donkey in this horse race. Nothing you said has anything to do with any of it. I'm not a die-hard Barbour fan, but he's done just fine in my book. He's done a whole lot more in this oil-spill mess than Obama has. When we take back America, starting with the current globalist society, the world just might have some semblance of sanity. Education has done this dirty work to itself, Barbour didn't have anything to do with it. ghgh, BP & Obama are strange bedfellows. Do some research. You won't see any money coming from him to help the oil spill. It goes straight into his pocket. My cousin used to design multi $M off-shore oil rigs [EXXON]. All the companies are leaving the US & going elsewhere. Our fuel is going to increase just like our groceries & everything else. The companies needed to have safety already in place.

I love to read blogs. They show just how much people really don't know what they are talking about.

Hey Thanks - our governor is an idiot and I have no use for him. The day he can no longer pollute the Governor's Mansion will be a blessed day indeed. He's out for himself and his interests and nothing more. All he does is step on the "little people" to elevate himself and those he lobbies for. He's done that the entire time he's been governor and I say forger him. I wouldn't urinate on him of he were on fire. There's talk of him running for national office. I will do everything in my power to make sure he isn't elected. The educators in this state sure won't go out of their way to help him out. Forget him. He's a moron.

The Democrats have taken PLENTY of oil money, including Senator and then President Obama. Don't make this just a Republican thing. You are simply believing a lie.
  • by Feelin Oily on Jun 17, 2010 at 12:19 PM
Barbour is not talking from the perspective of a conservative right-wing republican, but from that of someone who is heavily tied to the oil and gas industry and receives significant royalties from them. He has had these ties for along time even before becoming governor. So he comments concerning the oil spill come from his pockets and not for his concern for the people who are being negatively impacted by this spill. Stop offshore oil drilling and he and his Bush/Chaney friends loose money. Hey the whole Iraq war was begun to get to the oil over there.
