Summer enrollment at East Mississippi Community College is up by 34.7 percent, according to college officials.
As of June 14, a total of 3,087 students were enrolled, up 795 students from the same time last year.
“We’re happy to see so many students taking advantage of summer classes, whether they’re getting a head start on the next academic year, or taking classes for their own personal enrichment,” said EMCC president, Dr. Rick Young.
Young says the tuition guarantee program is still available to high school graduates in EMCC's six-county district. Also, students who register for fall classes before Aug. 1 are eligible for an $80 discount on their fees, from $200 to $120.
Of the 3,087 students registered for summer classes so far, 2,141 are taking classes at EMCC’s Golden Triangle campus in Mayhew. At the Columbus Air Force Base branch, 261 students are registered.
In the southern end of EMCC’s district, 609 students are enrolled at the Scooba campus, and 76 at the Naval Air Station Meridian branch.
The first summer term is underway now. The second summer term runs from July 7 to Aug. 6; the last day to register is July 6.
