The children at the Boys and Girls Club in Meridian got a special treat Thursday, meeting a veteran 'police officer'.
This one was of the canine variety. Maggie is a retired drug-sniffing dog, who now works at the Regional Counterdrug Training Facility at NAS Meridian.
Maggie and her handler, Bob McBride, showed the students exactly how dogs like her are able to sniff out drugs.
"It's an opportunity for Maggie to come out and see the kids," said Ricky Hood, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club. "But it's also an opportunity for the kids to see and have a respect for not only the work that she does, but the fact that she's well trained, well behaved, and she goes around the Boys and Girls Club with no leash or anything and the kids are not afraid of her. "
McBride runs the Regional Counterdrug Training Academy.
