Starting next week, some residents in Lauderdale County will receive letters notifying them of their option.
Prior to the start of curbside garbage pickup, the residents who will be given this option were able to dump their garbage at the Pine Ridge Landfill for free. This agreement was established when the landfill first opened.
"We're going now to send them out a letter and explain to them that if they want to keep their rollout cart, that's fine," said county engineer Neal Carson. "But they'll have to pay the fee. And if they want to exercise their right to go to the landfill directly, then they'll have to get some document signed by the landfill operator and then we'll exempt them."
In all Carson says about 20 residents will receive the letters. He says the deadline for the residents to respond will be in August.
