Meridian's Key Field National Guard Base is one of two finalists for a new training mission.
Mississippi Cong. Gregg Harper made that announcement Thursday.
“The men and women of Key Field have continually been considered the benchmark of excellence by the Air Force, and I am confident that we will be very competitive during the Air Force’s site survey process,” Harper said.
The Air Force says Key Field and Mansfield, Ohio, are the two finalists for the C-27J training mission.
The C-27J is a cargo plane used for landing in difficult environments.
The base has already been guaranteed four of these planes, but the training mission would bring more planes and about 50 more jobs with it.
