An inmate at the East Mississippi Correctional Facility died Thursday evening after he was rushed to a local hospital.
He was found in his cell not breathing around 6:30 p.m. He was then transported to the hospital.
Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler said the name of the white male was not immediately being released. His body has been sent to Jackson for an autopsy.
Prison officials say the investigation into the death is underway, and no details were released Thursday night.
