Accident Victims Laid to Rest

Funeral services were held Wednesday for five children killed in a horrific accident in Neshoba County over the weekend.

The six people who died Saturday were members of the Choctaw nation. The five children ranged in age from 19 months to 9-years old. A 38-year old female passenger was also killed.

Two hearses carried the five small bodies on Wednesday, as friends and family gathered at the Pearl River facility building to remember the young John children. The Choctaw nation flag was flying at half-staff. It was an emotional day for the entire community. Teachers Renate Ben and Randi Williams were among those releasing balloons to honor the children.

"When this happened, it hit all of us very hard," Ben said. "Even though we weren't related or anything, it hit everybody really hard."

"Being a teacher at the school, it is hard," Williams said. "You know every kid. This right here hit us hard, particularly if you have love for kids."

Dianne Chickaway, who also died in the crash, will be buried on Thursday. Her husband and the parents of the children survived when the Dodge Durango they were traveling in plunged into a swollen creek.

The driver and father of the children, Duane John, has been charged with six counts of DUI-Manslaughter.
