Authorities in Clarke County are investigating a Saturday morning boating accident on Archusa Lake in Quitman that nearly severed a woman's arm.
The Clarke County Sheriff's Department says the accident happened around 9:30 Saturday morning when the boat's engine hit something in the water. Investigators say that caused the engine to enter the boat while the propeller was still turning. Sheriff Todd Kemp says a female passenger was struck in the left shoulder, nearly severing her arm completely.
The victim was treated by local EMS on the scene and was flown to UMC in Jackson. She is in critical condition.
