Attala County Sheriff William Lee, who was first elected in 2002, has died. He was 59.

Attala County Chancery Clerk Gary Taylor told The Associated Press Lee died Monday at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

The sheriff's department said it will release
more information later. The cause of death was not immediately available.

Taylor said the Attala County Board of Supervisors will name an interim sheriff until a special election can be held.
