Attempted Robbery Inside Bonita Wal-Mart

There were some tense moments inside the Bonita Wal-Mart Supercenter early Tuesday morning.

Meridian police tell Newscenter 11 that sometime after 1 a.m., a man walked into the store, walked up to a cashier, reached over and grabbed the cash out of the drawer. Authorities say the suspect then proceeded to then leave the store, but was caught by employees. Investigators say employees managed to subdue the man until police arrived and took him into custody. That suspect is being charged with a misdemeanor.

Officer Mike Vick tells us it was thanks to the employees and customers being situationally aware that led to this arrest.

"Well in this case, there was no weapon displayed," Vick points out. "There was no threat of violence, none of that. It was just a snatch and grab, run. "So in that case, people intervened, caught him and held him until we got there. Had there been a weapon involved, the threat of a weapon involved, then what you do is stay out of the way."

Meridian police say they are not releasing the name of the suspect. Meanwhile, Newscenter 11 did call a manager at the Bonita Wal-Mart Supercenter who told us he was not working at the time of the incident and that he would not be commenting.

Why aren't the police releasing his name? They release "other" people names, so why is this a problem? Crime is crime, no matter what color or race. I just believe everyone should be treated the same.

All these crime are awful/ but few get reported while states games are here. I Love state games.I have a scanner,I HAVE CHECK FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS/ I HAVE HEARD A LOT OF CRIME REPORTED ON THE SCANNER/BUT NONE IN THE PAPER OR ON THE NEWS.WE ARE A SOME WHAT SAFE CITY/WE SHOULD REPORT ALL CRIMES SO PEOPLE CAN BE AWARE OF DANGER AREAS. WHEN A CRIME IS COMMITTED IN ANY NEIGHBORHOOD,LET THE PEOPLE KNOW, SO THEY CAN BE ON THE LOOK OUT, AND CAN HELP THE POLICE SOLVED THE CRIME. I HOPE WE HAVE SUCESS WITH THE STATE GAMES ,

Yet another reason not to go into south Meridian. Ever notice how crime is so high out that way? I never go to that side of town because of the people that can't drive, I see kids punching each other in businesses with no parents around to stop them- it feels like a really bad version of the Ten Commandments movie when Moses steps down from the mountain and finds everyone running wild, doing bad things.

My Friend, Josh and & his Son, RayRay were just robbed on Sunday (Father's Day) at a local store in Meridian by 2 Black Males & a White Female. They took His Wallet & Iphone then they smashed a brick though the truck window and it hit his 4 yr old son. Now RayRay has a cast & is on crutches cuz the brick fractured his leg. The Thieves wore NO Hoodies and smiled big for the cameras. No public awareness has been given by any of the media so I am actually suprised that this story is being given any attention. Public Beware of Strangers claiming to need Help!

It was at the 10th Ave Deli & Market store. Around the corner from the Welsey House and Back off 14th Street. The Owner was of great help to Josh & Ray and had really good video Cameras in place that the MPD quick took control of. I actually travel that road alot. It runs from the Fire House on North Hill Street all the way to 14th Street. Great way to bypass Hwy 39 traffic in the afternoon. These Males wear Hanes "Wife Beaters" T's and One of them is Tatoo'd with a "G" on his right arm. We were told by several people that these 2BM's w/ 1WF have commited several other crimes prior to this one and even raped one of their victims.

Okay I know the area. I have driven by but never stopped. I sure will avoid the area now. I am glad it wasn't any worse than it could have been.

Why is his name not being released. It is important for us to know who the criminals are living amoung us.
