Meridian, Miss. Students at Meridian High School got to listen to a motivational speaker today to learn some life lessons.
Victor Woods, author of the book "A Breed Apart: A Journey to Redemption", brought his message of staying out of trouble to the students.
Woods went to prison twice, once as a teenager, and once as an adult. But he says he turned his life around.
Woods says kids can learn from an example that, if you fall down, you can be picked back up with encouragement.
"It's not where you start; it's where you finish," said Woods. "And some of our young people that are in trouble are our smartest, brightest young people. So when we show them love and some compassion and reach out and the community puts their arms around people, good things can happen to them."
Woods says he believes the students really listened to his message, and if they work hard, great things can happen.
