Lauderdale County, Mississippi Multiple law enforcement agencies were called to the Lauderdale County Detention Facility on Saturday night after numerous inmates escaped from their cells.
Sheriff Billy Sollie says it all started around 10:00 when jail employees were attacked and their keys were taken. As many as 90 inmates were then let out of their cells. Sollie says the incident was contained to the C-Pod of the facility.
During the incident, a small fire was started in the area of concern. Sollie tells Newscenter 11 the fire was quickly extinguished. No one was hurt during the course of the evening. Sollie says authorities have secured the Lauderdale County Detention Facility.
