The first ever black Bishop of Mississippi's United Methodists was in Meridian on Sunday.
Bishop James Swanson, Sr. delivered a message at Central United Methodist Church in downtown Meridian on Sunday afternoon. Swanson began his duties as Bishop in Mississippi on September 1st after serving in Eastern Tennessee. Swanson told the crowd on Sunday that it is sometimes easy to forget how truly blessed the church really is.
"Sometimes the church is so blessed by the handle of holy things," Swanson said. "That we don't realize that we don't realize how blessed we are. That God has allowed us the divine privilege to handle holy things."
Swanson was presented with a gift prior to delivering his message.
