Boys and Girls Club Receives Big Donation

The East End Temple Masonic Lodge # 476 presented a check to the Boys and Girls Club for $1,000 to help with uniforms for the upcoming football season. #476 says they just want the Boys and Girls Club to know they are thinking about the kids.

"And I want to accept this check on behalf of all of the kids that participate in our program," Boy and Girls Club Director Ricky Hood said. "The example that these men have set over the years is tremendous and I wish more men would set an example that they are setting. It takes a man, to teach a man, how to be a man."

Hood says he is pleased that the east end masonic lodge #476 is becoming more involved with the boys and girls club and looks forward to the future.

The Boys and Girls Club is an asset to the Meridian community. Think of the number of children that would be roaming the streets, not getting proper meals and doing God knows what, if they were not a part of the Boys and Girls Club. If you feel that they are not adequately meeting the needs of the Meridian children, volunteer your time and expertise to enhance the lives of the Boys and Girls Club youth.

Are you serious????? The Boys & Girls Club is a positive club and it should not matter who make donations. If someone wants to make donations that goes towards uniforms then so be it. That is their money and they are entitled to do what they want with it. Instead of people, posting negative things you should ask yourself what you are doing to better your community. I personally had the privilege of working with Ricky Hood when I DJ at 105.7 The Beat. During those years, I had the opportunity to throw kid parties and give some of the money to the Club. Ricky Hood took that money and invested in that building & our kid’s future. He is one of the few MEN that CARES. STOP BEING SO NEGATIVE MERIDIAN & STOP HATING

The shame here is is that some people are myopic and are missing the point. The "goal" is to provide money to be used so that children who can otherwise not afford to participate can. Sports are a means to reach children..teaching them among other things, responsibility, dedication, teamwork, accountability, and so on..and the last time I checked, these are LIFE SKILLS. The same people who complain about everything negative in Meridian are now complaining about..get this..CHARITY. I hope more people contribute to our community and I hope that WTOk continues to cover the positive things that transpire in the community. It only takes one positive experience for a child to change their direction in life.

Atleast we know where some folks minds are. I mean....'donation for uniforms" because they "care"??? man are you KIDDING ME??...FOOTBALL....You have FAMILIES, PEOPLE, over at the ________ SHELTER thats on the verge of CLOSING but you more concerned with providing FOOTBALL uniforms for :-) Yea-you rather 'waste money' on uniforms. If they cant afford uniforms why even PLAY? u people need priorities in your life......Another thing, do the kids at Boys and Girls Club really learn anything or are they mainly there to goof off?....PLEASE!....And I agree with 'SOUTHERNGENTLEMEN".....You give a lil donation and you gotta be all on tv-like you did a big thing.....PLEASE

Did you donate $1,000.00? They can decide where they want their money to go; what's it to you?

Somebody need to take ova the sports activity from the boys and girl club because they are not teaching children how to play ball these days... Mayb if they were really dedicated to that then the kids would have some to look forward to instead of all this violent stuff the youngsters are doing these days...

Didn't know thier goal was to teach kid's how to play ball. I thought the goal was to teach kids life skills and that ball games were to teach teamwork.

Nice story the group received for a $1000 donation. Over the past year or so, Ive donated anywhere from a hundred or so up to well over $2000 to different local causes and sometimes my comments here arent even posted. Of course, I dont make donations for publicity. Just saying, if youre donating for the right reason, does a press conference really need to be called?
