A safety check point run by Sheriff's deputies and Quitman police led to a major drug arrest Thursday in Quitman.
"Individuals pulled up in a vehicle in rental car, [officers] saw alcohol present in the vehicle, which is illegal in Clarke County, and a search was conducted," explains Sheriff Todd Kemp.
A large quantity of cocaine and marijuana was discovered after authorities searched the car, and Kemp says Damien Laphand has told authorities the drugs were his.
"He is on probation out of the circuit clerk of Clarke County for a previous charge," says Kemp, "so apparently Mr. Laphand didn't learn his lesson from a previous offense, his drug store is closed."
$3,000 was also confiscated in the round up. The other suspects in the car have bonded out on misdemeanor charges, but Laphand may not have the option of bond because of that probation violation.
