Meridian, Miss. The Meridian City Council continues on its road to an approved budget for fiscal year 2015.
Council members Thursday discussed departmental proposals that have been submitted.
Council president, Dustin Markham, says it's not known yet if a tax increase will be necessary. And he says the city is still waiting to find out from Lauderdale County what the value of a mill will be this year.
"We've been in conference for about three hours today making some cuts to the budget as it has been presented to us, to see what we can do to accommodate those things essential and those that would help benefit the way of life of our citizens," Markham said.
Markham says the council is trying to bring the new budget more in line with the current fiscal year's.
