Mississippi State University Meridian Campus will be offering a new bachelor's degree program in the fall.
The university will offer criminology as a degree program.
Students will examine criminal behavior and backgrounds of criminals to see why certain people who grow up in certain areas are more likely to commit crimes.
"The program started several years ago on the Starkville campus, and it really has grown in popularity since then," said Amanda Cook, lecturer at MSU Meridian. "It is interesting to note that MSU is the only school in the state that offers a degree in criminology, so we're excited about that."
Classes for MSU Meridian start Aug. 20.
