Jackson, Miss.
The nomination of Jackson attorney Debra M. Brown to a federal judgeship in north Mississippi is scheduled to be considered by the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.

Brown's nomination is one of four before the committee, which meets at 8:30 a.m. CDT. Her confirmation hearing was held earlier this month.

President Obama nominated Brown in May. The judgeship presides over court in Greenville, Miss.

If confirmed, Brown would become the state's first black female district judge.

The post became open in 2012 by the death of U.S. District Judge W. Allen Pepper Jr.

Brown works in the Jackson law firm Wise Carter Child & Caraway.

Brown graduated with a bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University and has a law degree from the University of Mississippi.
