Dirt Biker Rescued after Mishap

Meridian emergency workers were called early Wednesday evening to rescue a man trapped off-road after a dirt bike accident.

The accident happened at the Meridian Off Highway Vehicle Park, which is more than a half-mile off the road near Lakeview Golf Course.

The biker's name was not released to the media. But officials said he was alert and conscious and able to tell responders his physical injuries.

It took officials with Metro Ambulance, Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department, Homeland Security and Meridian Police Department almost an hour to get the biker out of the woods.

Lt. Buck Roberts of the Meridian Police Department said an ATV from the training facility had to be brought to the site, because it was the only way medical personnel could secure the biker to bring him out safely.
