On the eve of the preliminary rounds of the Distinguished Young Woman competition, participants gathered on Wednesday night for what is known as the judges party.
Officials say it is an opportunity for the girls to meet the judges before interviews begin on Thursday. The party is just a way to calm everyone's nerves and have a little fun before everyone gets down to business.
"They've prepared so long for this interview," DYW official Melody Pennington says. "And just an opportunity for them to see the judges are normal people. They're laid back and a lot of fun and they are really just here to see, to get to know the girls. "
The final round of the DYW competition is set for Saturday night at the Temple Theater.
