Participants Monday learned their dance routine that they will judged on later in the week. They also loaded up on buses and played games with girls at the Boys and Girls Club.
Program organizers say this project goes along with the Be Your Best Self motto.
"You have some nice girls from all over the Mississippi region that took time out of their lives to come down here and participate with our kids, and let them know what it means to them, as far as giving back and what they are looking to do themselves," said Jermaine Harris, unit director for the Boys and Girls Club.
The program participants also announced the winner of an essay contest. The winner was Aja Johnson. She won a $50 Books-A-Million gift certificate.
The young ladies will continue practicing until the first of two nights of preliminary competition Thursday evening. The finals of the event will be Saturday evening. Tickets are on sale at the Temple Theater box office, 601-693-5353.
