The speaker of the Mississippi House of Representatives was a special guest Thursday at East Mississippi Community College.
State Rep. Philip Gunn says if Mississippi is ever going to prosper, it has to have an educated workforce.
Gunn made the comments in his keynote address at EMCC's Industrial Appreciation Luncheon.
The speaker says the partnerships between industry in the area and EMCC increase the quality of life in the region.
"This college has done a great job of making that an emphasis of their's," said Gunn. "They're producing top quality graduates. We see that in the number of businesses that are coming to this region. And so we're here today to celebrate that."
This is the fourth year EMCC has hosted the event at the Scooba campus.
